Phi Beta Kappa Inductees at Duke University

181 Duke students joined Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest academic honor society, May 10, 2012, in Page Auditorium. Inductees, family and Duke administrators share the joys of the ceremony. Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa elects more than 15,000 new members a year from 276 chapters across the United States. The honor society is the nation's leading advocate for arts and sciences at the undergraduate level.

Duke University 2012 Student Commencement Address

At Duke University's commencement ceremony May 12, 2012, student graduation speaker Roshan Sadanani said, "the real wonder in this Gothic Wonderland has always been how after some time here, we all are able to claim a small piece of Duke as our own." Sadanani, a Charlotte, N.C., native who received a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, described how the university became smaller for students over the years as they created their own Duke experiences.

Tracking Trees at Duke

Two Duke graduate students show how they inventory Duke's trees to be included in the i-Tree program. Duke is among a growing number of college campuses using the computer program. The work is part of continued campus landscape analysis by Facilities Management, which includes studying trees, turf and planting across about 350 acres. The goal is to better understand the natural landscape of Duke.
